Thoughts

Thanks for sharing so much (you were always the real teacher in the family). Some highlights: • Playing long games of chess while listening to 1930’s big band music • Watching cyclo-cross on Kenilworth Common or track racing at The Butts • Stories of the War (and the bombed-out bus on Broadgate) • Exploring rock pools at Aberdesach • Facing that tennis serve • Bookcases full of books (and maps) • The Peanuts every day on the back page of the Daily Mail • Pot Black on the new colour TV (probably the reason we bought it) • Learning to calculate areas of segments of circles at 9 years old – and mostly forgotten ever since! • Balancing precariously on the top tube cycle seat • Protracted car journeys at not breakneck speed • Regular visits to Warwick and Leamington, and rounds of pitch and putt in the Memorial Park • New Year with Arthur and Joyce • Walks across the Ash Green fields, along the Coventry canal, and even up Snowdon • And, of course, the most obscure and esoteric family quiz questions! All very much appreciated!

Some very fond memories of Alan : - outings in his cars and vans, two families (his and ours, that of his brother Arthur) usually crammed into the back, breakfast in a lay-by, singing on the way back; - practical games and contests at Christmas, always challenging and fun; - Sunday morning golf, Alan and my Dad at the Memorial Park in Coventry; - his interested and interesting mind, always exploring and wanting to know more about things. I will miss him.

Alan, even though we were never able to see you often, you never forgot us. You will always be remembered with fondly. X
